Don Braisby

Don Braisby is a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at Glyndwr University School of Art, Wales and holds a PhD in Alternative Printmaking Practices. With a BA and MA in Fine Art, Don has extensive experience and a wealth of technical and professional knowledge in a number of processes, including sculptural techniques using electrometalurgy, electroplating and electortype, all informed by his academic research and studio practice. Since he joined Cork Printmakers in 2019, Don has introduced many members and staff to new techniques in the area of alternative and non-toxic printmaking, which has been revolutionary for the studios in an effort to phase out the use of dangerous chemicals. Don lectures in Saline Suphite Etching and Electroplate Etching, using techniques which are both pre-Industrial Revolution and contemporary.

Don’s practice is rooted in the observation of nature in his immediate surroundings, with his imagery informed by the etching processes he uses. Printmaking, which results in series of images repeated in editions, has led to Don incorporating film to expand his practice into the moving image, presenting multiples of images in consecutive order on screen. He has undertaken residencies and exhibited in Ireland and the UK. His work can be seen on his website:
