With drypoint the image is incised or scratched onto a plate with a hard-pointed ‘needle’ of sharp metal, called a scribe. A residue or ‘burr’ is thrown up at the edges of the drawn line which holds the ink at printing stage forming the distinct drypoint line, which is dense and velvety. You will also learn about plate and paper preparation, the application of ink and create a small edition of two prints.

By the end of the week, you should have created a small series of prints, which you can use to turn into a one-of-a-kind artist book, using simple binding structures.
