Paper is the title of an exhibition by Cork Printmaker member - Jo Kelley, at the James Barry Exhibition Centre, CIT Rossa Avenue, Bishopstown. The show will open on Wednesday 11 February at 6pm and runs from February 09 – 27.
“My practice encompasses mythology and other forms of narration. My work is figurative, and is an exploration of a real and of an imagined world. The reconstruction and reinterpretation of memory is an important element within my work. I am interested in the tension and boundaries that exist between the actual and the imaginary, and the questions that surround authenticity.”
Opening Hours: Monday – Friday, 10am – 8pm and Saturdays, 10am – 5pm

Capture the Cosmos
Capture the Cosmos is a collaboration between Cork City Council, Cork Printmakers and Blackrock Castle Observatory and forms a key part of Cork’s celebration of International Year of Astronomy 2009. This collaboration has made it possible for children from four schools across Cork City - Scoil na Croise Naofa, Mahon, Scoil Padre Pio, Gurranabraher, St. Mary on the Hill, Knocknaheeney and North Presentation Primary School, Blackpool – to explore the world of astronomy and express their new learning, creatively, through artist-led printmaking workshops.
The workshops have just been completed in the four schools. The process has proved to be very successful and the final prints are dynamic and very colourful. A publication is currently being complied to document the whole project. The Capture the Cosmos exhibition will feature a print donated from each participating child. It will be launched in City Hall during St Patrick’s Festival celebrations and the theme of the parade this year is Comic Chaos. Money raised from the sale of this work will enable UNAWE (Universal Awareness of Young Children) to continue its work. UNAWE is an international outreach activity that inspires young disadvantaged children with the beauty and grandeur of the universe.
